This brooch is an interesting example of Victorian mourning jewelry. An oval dome of blackish-brown horn has been carved into strange geometric forms. Horn was a popular material for use in mourning jewelry, it has the subtle, somber appearance appropriate to the genre. The brooch secures with the brass C-clasp pin common to the era. The hollow dome and long pin of this brooch make it a superb scarf pin. Circa 1850.

Details.....The brooch measures 1.76" by 1.53". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels, we consider it a part of their charm.
